This immersive course provides a practical and strategic introduction to impact investing for NGOs, mission-driven organizations, and impact investors. It bridges the gap between the social impact sector and investment landscape by equipping NGOs with the knowledge, tools, and connections needed to engage effectively with catalytic capital providers. 

Participants will explore impact investment fundamentals, innovative finance mechanisms, investor expectations, impact measurement standards, and communication strategies that resonate with funders.

Through interactive sessions, case studies, group work, and peer learning, participants will leave with a practical action plan for securing impact investment and contributing to a stronger, more connected impact ecosystem.

After this course you will know:

  • The core principles of impact investing and how they relate to the work of NGOs
  • Types of impact capital (e.g. venture philanthropy, blended finance, social impact bonds) and how they align with NGO missions
  • What drives impact investors: returns, risk, and mission alignment
  • How to assess and strengthen organizational readiness for impact investment
  • How to develop and use a Theory of Change and impact thesis in investment conversations
  • Best practices for impact measurement and reporting using IRIS+, SDGs, and custom indicators
  • How to communicate effectively with investors, including crafting an impact case and pitch materials
  • The landscape of impact investors, due diligence processes, and partnership expectations
  • Financial literacy essentials and key investor language
  • Opportunities for collaboration, advocacy, and ecosystem engagement

Trainers

All trainers have a minimum of 15 years’ experience in impact investing, finance, and/or the NGO sector. They are equipped to tailor content to the audience’s learning goals and real-world challenges. Sessions are interactive, participatory, and delivered in English.
