This month, MzN International were in Kampala, where our Managing Director, Christian Meyer zu Natrup, facilitated a training on Proposal Writing and Nonprofit Finance for Oxfam Uganda.
This training was specifically tailored to the needs of the NGO, and like all our trainings, practical and multidisciplinary. As we had many topics to cover in a limited time, we commenced online learning in the days leading up to the training using Teamwork, our online learning platform. This way, participants were able to access materials and exercises to prepare them for the workshop. We find that giving participants time to better orient themselves can make a real difference in the impact of a training course.
At MzN International, we are vocal that the development and aid sector is experiencing a shift, and that organisations should diversify their funding base in order to adapt. Alongside this, existing donors are increasingly demanding closer involvement in projects, as we argued: “most donors are not content with just giving money away, but expect to stay involved. Whilst this offers a good opportunity for NGOs to build lasting relationships with new donors, as well as using their clout, influence and connections to engage with other actors relevant for their cause, it also represents an operational challenge.”
This was supported by the feedback from our participants, who singled out the sessions on “what makes a good funding partner”, “donor trends”, and “networking tips and opportunities”. Moreover, the participants found that the exercises on proposal writing and budgeting would be key drivers to improving their success.
Thank you to all participants from Oxfam Uganda for taking part!
